Guiding Principles in Action at Howell

At Nestling House, our days are rooted in connection, curiosity, and care for the world around us. Whether it’s pausing to admire a single leaf, experimenting with the sounds of a metal bowl outdoors, or running freely in the rain, each moment reflects our belief that children learn best through hands-on exploration and joyful discovery. Here are some photos of our guiding principles in action at our Howell Location!

We strive to create an environment where children feel safe to explore, confident to try new things, and deeply connected to nature and their community. Every day offers a new opportunity to wonder, create, and grow together.

Visit from the Milwaukee Fire Department at Herman

Friday was an exciting day at our Herman center! We had a special visit from the Milwaukee Fire Department, Station 7 and their firetruck! The children were thrilled to meet the crew and learn all about the important work firefighters do in our community.

The highlight of the morning was getting to explore the firetruck up close! Children peeked inside the cab and saw the tools and gear that the firefighters use day-to-day. Their faces were full of wonder as they listened to the sirens and saw the flashing lights while wearing their Junior Fire Chief helmets.

The children also got to learn about not hiding from firefighters in an emergency, what to do if they hear a smoke alarm going off, and who to call if there is a fire. This information is essential, even for our littlest learners.

Visits like this help our children connect with their community helpers, build an understanding of safety, and spark new interests and ideas. A huge thank you to the firefighters at the Milwaukee Fire Department for taking the time to share their day with us and for all they do to keep our community safe!

Safety First at Herman

This past week, our Herman center successfully completed a fire drill, and our teachers and children did an amazing job! Everyone followed directions, stayed calm, and moved safely and quickly to our designated meeting spot. We’re so proud of how smoothly it went and of the care our teachers take to make safety a natural, comfortable part of our routine.

We’re also excited to share that on Friday, November 7th, between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., we’ll be welcoming firefighters and a fire truck to our center! This visit will give children the chance to meet real firefighters, explore the equipment up close, and learn more about fire safety in a hands-on, engaging way.

Safety is always a top priority at Nestling House, and we’re grateful for opportunities like this that help our children learn, connect, and build confidence.

Creativity in Full Swing at Howell

Our Howell classrooms have been bursting with creativity this fall! From colorful art projects to seasonal crafts, the children have been exploring and new ways to express themselves. Each piece tells a story of curiosity, imagination, and the joy that comes from creating together.

We love watching our classrooms transform with the children’s artwork and seeing their pride as they share their creations with their families, friends, and teachers. Nestling House-Howell is always buzzing with laughter, learning, and a whole lot of creativity.

Fall is in the Air at Nestling House

The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are changing, and fall has officially arrived! As we welcome the new season, our centers are buzzing with excitement for all things autumn. From exploring how Wisconsin changes this time of year to enjoying the wind and rain.

With the chillier temperatures, Nestling House is still committed to spending much of our day engaging with nature and our changing environment. With our jacket, hats, gloves -and sometimes rainsuits- outdoor play remains an important part of our daily routine. This time of year offers wonderful opportunities for exploration and sensory learning!

We love fall and all of the learning and curiosity it brings. We are so grateful to share these moments of wonder with the children and to experience the rhythm of the changing seasons together!
