Meet Our New Caregiver!

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Nestling House team, Vanya Schroeder!

Vanya will be sharing care giving responsibilities with Eric on a daily basis at Nestling House. Since 2004, Vanya has worked in various settings as a teacher and care giver; she began teaching English at the college level and then shifted into her role as a preschool teacher at Hoyne Street Playgroup, a long running and well regarded child care co-op in Chicago that embraces a play-based approach. Her additional experience as a nanny rounds out Vanya's strong care giving credentials. She holds a BS in Psychology and a MFA in Writing, and has been highly esteemed for her creativity and child-centered approach to care giving.

I will borrow a few words from Vanya herself to help convey how wonderfully she will fit with and strengthen our principles of play and relationship-based child care:

"My goal is to facilitate natural curiosity so children see learning as a lifelong adventure"

"Good nutritious food, made from real ingredients (not processed or sugar-laden) is an important physical resource"

"Children are active learners who gain knowledge by acting directly on and with concrete objects"

"I support children as they make discoveries about themselves and learn to recognize and name their feelings. In return I look through a window onto a fascinating world—an entire perception of reality—being built and rebuilt before my eyes. It is my responsibility as a teacher to facilitate arrival at a cheerful resolution—resolution, but never completion. There is always new material to consider."

Thank You and Website Update

Hello again, Friends and Neighbors!

First, we’d like to thank everyone who has expressed interest in what we’re doing with Nestling House, whether it be an enrollment inquiry, sharing a desire to become a caregiver, or just sending us kind words of support.  It has been incredible to hear from so many people that share our values and philosophy for child care and early learning. We are so grateful for all of the positive messages we’ve received.

We are especially thankful for those who have referred friends, colleagues, neighbors, or family members to us. As many of you know, word-of-mouth is such an important part of growing a small business and we truly appreciate your help in spreading the word about Nestling House.  On that note, keep an eye out around Bay View for our small flyers and feel free to grab one for that friend or neighbor who is looking for natural, play and relationship-based child care in our area.

In other news: we have long promised, “MORE INFO COMING SOON” on our philosophy page and we are happy to unveil our Nestling House Guiding Principles.  We would like to give credit to some of the organizations and individuals whose ideas we have borrowed from.  Foremost among these are LifeWays, and Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE). We are also pleased to be recognized as a LifeWays Aligned program as we consider their principles and practices for home-like, mixed-age, relationship-based child care to be very much aligned with our own.  Please check out our Philosophy page for more info!

Lastly, we are still currently enrolling for our home-based program opening in September, however, at this point we only have space available for children over 2 years old.  Additional space will be available when our Howell Ave. center opens in early 2017. If you have contacted us to express an interest in enrolling or being added to our wait list, you will be receiving an email with an official application and more information soon.

Thanks again for your support!

Take a look! Our Howell Ave. building is really coming along. Recently, new energy efficient windows were installed. Next up: plumbing, electrical, and a new high efficiency HVAC system.

More updates coming soon!

Opening Dates

Hello, Friends and Neighbors.  It's been a very busy summer so far and although there is still a great deal of work to be done before Nestling House opens its doors, we are pleased to announce our projected opening dates.  Yes, you read that right, dates.

We will be opening in two phases.  Phase one will be the opening of a small, family child care center in our home starting on September 1st.  Space will be very limited during this initial phase as we will be licensed to serve only 8 children (and only 2 children under 2).  This intimate home-based program will afford us the opportunity to grow our childcare program more organically, starting with a small group of children and gradually adding more as phase two begins.

Phase two will occur in late 2016/early 2017, when renovations are complete at our S. Howell location.  During this phase we will open three mixed-age suites and gradually grow to serve up to 30 children.

We are nearly fully enrolled for phase 1 with only 2 spots remaining for children 2 years and older. A waiting list has also been started for the phase 2 opening when we will be able to accommodate more children, particularly those under age 2. Please let us know if you'd like to get on the list as we will offer available slots on a first come first served basis.

Follow our progress here and on Facebook - we are looking forward to an exciting year as we grow together!
